about

This album is a collection of early recordings that I made, mostly at Pitchfork Studio's in Taylorsville Utah. They represent my introduction into the world of recording, and I hope that you'll enjoy them.

What was meant to be a quick visit to the studio to record some original ki ho'alu, turned into years worth of work, trial, and error. These tracks are raw, mostly unmixed, and highlight a style of nahenahe music, that I don't typically play at shows.

These are; however, the songs I like to play in the quiet of night, when everybody's asleep. To me, they take me back to Hawai'i, if only for a short while. I hope they'll do the same for you.

credits

released May 1, 2015

Vocals, Guitar, & Ukulele: Kimo Watanabe
Vocals & Ukulele: Reed Kahilina'i Hew-Len
Engineer: Clive Romney
Studio: Pitchfork Studios
Album Art: Ofa Fonua

I'd also like to say Mahalo a nui loa to the Hui Hawai'i 'O Utah who helped fund this project. Truth be told, I've been a bit hilahila to release these tracks because they're so raw, but I think it's about time for them to see some kind of light, and am grateful to have gone through the experience of recording them.

Track Name: The Way You Look Tonight
Some day, when I'm awfully low
When the world is cold
I will feel a glow just thinking of you
And the way you look tonight

Yes, you're lovely, with your smile so warm
And your cheeks so soft
There is nothing for me but to love you
And the way you look tonight

With each word your tenderness grows
Tearin' my fear apart
And that laugh..wrinkles your nose
Touches my foolish heart

Lovely ... Never, never change
Keep that breathless charm
Won't you please arrange it? 'Cause I love you
Just the way you look tonight
Track Name: All Along the Watchtower
"There must be some kind of way out of here, "
Said the joker to the thief,
"There's too much confusion, I can't get no relief.
Business men – they drink my wine
Plowmen dig my earth
None will level on the line
Nobody of it is worth."

"No reason to get excited, "
The thief – he kindly spoke,
"There are many here among us
Who feel that life is but a joke
But you and I we've been through that
And this is not our fate
So let us not talk falsely now
The hour's getting late."

All along the watchtower
Princess kept the view
While all the women came
And went bare-foot servants too
Outside in the cold distance
A wild cat did growl
Two riders were approaching
And the wind began to howl, hey.
